The exhibition, ‘Process’, will run Monday 15 May – Friday 9 June (12pm-2pm weekdays only) and there will also be an opportunity to meet the artists on Tuesday 16 May, 12pm-2pm.
The scheme provided artists Fiona Carruthers, George Sfougaras, Klara Szafrańska and Natalia Kasprzycka with access to workshops, equipment and expertise. They have worked within print, ceramics, 3D design and metal, as well as interacted with practitioners and researchers at the University.
The artists have collaboratively designed this exhibition as part of a process of reflection on the work they have produced and where it might lead them.
Fiona Carruthers works in expanded fields of drawing, playing with ideas of material significance, scale and transformation. Her work invites the viewer to think about what it means to be human and what survival might look like. George Sfougaras focuses on memory, identity, migration and cultural inheritance in his work. The work shown in this exhibition refers to the importance and divine nature of ‘ordinary’ lived moments. Klara Szafrańska works with sculpture, video and performance, drawing on socio-political themes like fetish and kitsch. Natalia Kasprzycka explores themes of circulation and transformation, using craft skills as research tools.
AAA2A provides artists and designer-makers with access to workshops, equipment and expertise in host universities and colleges across the UK, enabling them to develop their work by undertaking research or realising a project. Students within Creative Arts have been able to interreact with the artists during their residency and find out more about building a creative career. The artists are in residence until the end of June 2023
