The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion team have been working in collaboration with the Web and Digital team to create a digital space to support all staff and students through a series of new webpages covering all things EDI.

As a University, we are working towards a goal of ‘Creating Better Futures. Together’. We aim to create an environment that embeds equity, diversity and inclusion as everybody’s responsibility and a fundamental consideration in all areas of activity. Our Pro Vice-Chancellor for EDI, Professor Charlotte Croffie, is leading work on the EDI core plan to direct our work towards delivering these ambitions.

Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do, from student recruitment to employment practices, to ensuring staff feel safe to be themselves at work. This means that EDI is relevant to all of us - regardless of role, pay grade, job family, subject area or year of study.

At Loughborough, EDI is about more than simply meeting a legal requirement. It is about creating a culture where each person feels a sense of safety and belonging, which empowers them to achieve their full potential. It is not about getting everything right all the time, but about having honest conversations, listening to people with different life experiences, and being open to change.

The information on these webpages is designed to empower you and your team to implement key principles of EDI to positively impact your work and your workplace. You will find a range of essential information including:

  • What is a Staff Network - and why you should join one.

  • Resources to help you embed EDI practices in your work - wherever you work.

  • How to have difficult conversations with colleagues and how to feel comfortable speaking up.

  • Guidance on when and how to use Positive Action and Equality Impact Assessments.

  • Guidance on accessing and using EDI data.

  • Support offered by the University to students with protected characteristics (eg students with disabilities, students from ethnic minority backgrounds).

  • Grass-roots activities and initiatives which are being organised around campus by your colleagues and student peers – and how to get involved.

  • The University’s Charter Marks and what these mean in practice.

We encourage you to look at these pages and to refer to them regularly. If you have questions, concerns, or suggestions, please contact us at EDI@lboro.ac.uk
