Director of Library Services elected chair Midlands Academic Library Network

Emma Walton, Director of Library Services and University Librarian has been elected as Chair of the Mercian Collaboration – a regional library network comprising of 23 Midlands academic libraries.

The Collaboration provides a space for libraries to work together to explore training and development, and to seek efficiencies on behalf of our institutions and the wider community. Members share good practice and ideas, as well as their awareness of relevant ideas and developments from outside the Collaboration.

This network is a regional sub-group of The Society of College, National and University Libraries (SCONUL) the professional body representing all university libraries in the UK and Ireland, as well as national libraries and many libraries with collections of national significance. Emma is also a member of the SCONUL Executive Board.

Commenting on her election Emma emphasised the value of networks such as the Mercian and other wider representative bodies for the opportunities they provided to share information, expertise and practice both nationally and regionally across a wide range of current and emerging issues. She added: “I am delighted to have been elected and am looking forward to working to provide opportunities for our members.”
