Athletic Performance coach joins Loughborough Sport’s Support Services

Loughborough Sport is delighted to welcome new recruit Cormac Ryan to its Support Services team.

In his new role, Cormac will be involved in the coordination of Loughborough’s sports performance departments to provide support to sporting bodies, businesses, and groups looking to improve their athletic abilities.

The main groups Cormac will work alongside are the Boxing Centre of Excellence and external Motorsport athletes.

Cormac joins Loughborough from Wasps Rugby, where his role was to co-lead on the Return to Performance/Rehabilitation pathway. He also spent time working on an internship as a sport scientist for New Zealand Super Rugby Championship-winning team, the Hurricanes.

Having had the opportunity to do some casual work with the Sports Development Centre (SDC) at the end of 2022, Cormac was impressed with the environment, culture, and standard of performance support being delivered.

“I’m really excited to be working at Loughborough, in such a growth area for SDC,” Cormac said.

“I hope that my knowledge and expertise can add value and build on the incredible work that has already been done in this area. It’s really rewarding to aid the delivery of performance support to current commercial clients while attracting new clients and bringing a wider awareness to the amazing services and support available at the University.”

Richard Ellis, Gyms, and Technical Relationships Manager at Loughborough University added: "We’re delighted to welcome Cormac to the team as we have seen rapidly growing demand for Loughborough's performance support expertise to be applied to high-performing sporting bodies and businesses.

“The onboarding of this new role allows us the technical expertise and capacity to provide optimal performance solutions to groups, and individuals, looking to maximise human performance."

Jo Simpson, Commercial and Facilities Director for Sport at Loughborough University added:

“The integrated performance support available at Loughborough is truly world-leading. Cormac’s appointment is the next step in the strategic growth of a professional service that has already had a huge impact across the sporting world.

“We have worked with teams from the English Premier League, FA Women’s Super League, Commonwealth Games, MOTO GP and elite professional boxers. This is a phenomenal team and I look forward to seeing the continued growth of this outstanding service.”
