Trans Abstraction: Loughborough colleague to exhibit digital artwork

An exhibition of abstract expressionist digital paintings by Stevie Ashurst will be on display in the Martin Hall Exhibition Space, 16-27 January.

The covid lockdown period held challenges and difficulties for many people in different ways. For Stevie, the medium of digital painting was chosen as means of creative expression, whilst access to traditional painting materials and locations were limited. It also worked within the day-to-day working life that had become the normal for at least two years and has become and continues to be an important part of their life.

The result was Trans Abstraction – an exhibition of artwork that represents the feelings, emotions and issues in coming to terms with being transgender as a 40-something in the early 2020s.

The exhibition is free to view 12pm-2pm, Monday to Friday until 27 January.

There will also be a drinks evening on Friday 20 January, 6pm-8pm which is open to all who would like to view the artwork, talk to the artist and socialise with others.

Stevie commented: “It's fantastic seeing my digital paintings turned into actual physical prints. I really hope this exhibition gives people the opportunity to see and experience something of the creative expression I've tried to capture, in the overall presentation as well as in each individual piece.”

All prints from the exhibition will be available to buy via an online auction. All proceeds from this will go towards a transgender supporting charity.

This event is supported by the Creative and Print Services Print Unit and LU Arts
