Create your own catwalk ready sustainable outfit

LU Arts is running a workshop series with Bruce Asbestos to explore how basic items and recycled materials can be transformed into amazing new creations.

Reinvent: Catwalk Creations is a chance to try out new ideas, meet new people and be inspired by one another. Over the four workshops Bruce will introduce his work and help create the buzz of a busy studio pre-catwalk.

By the end you will have created a sustainable outfit ready to be shown at the Sustainable Fashion Show in the Students’ Union on 14 March.

The sessions will be run 2pm-5pm on the following days:

  • Wednesday 1 February
  • Wednesday 8 February
  • Wednesday 22 February
  • Wednesday 1 March

No prior sewing skills are needed but you will need to bring along some old clothes/materials to repurpose. The course is £10 and you will need to commit to attending all four sessions.

The deadline for booking your place is 5pm on Tuesday 31 January 2023.

Book your place.

If you can’t attend these sessions, then there will still be chances for you to get involved in the Sustainable Fashion Show; either by submitting a piece or being a model on the night. LSU Enterprise will be launching this event at the Refreshers Bazaar on Saturday 4 February, where you can find out more. You can also register your interest in this project by emailing luarts@lboro.ac.uk and further details will be sent to you once registrations are open.

If you would prefer to get involved in the technical design of the catwalk, then Bruce Asbestos will be running a further workshop on Friday 3 March to help design the catwalk. Students attending this workshop will help to build the set on the afternoon of the Fashion Show. Email luarts@lboro.ac.uk to find out more.

Accessibility

The workshops will take place in the Collaboration Station on the First Floor of the Students' Union. There is lift access to the first floor and accessible toilets on the ground floor and first floor of the Union building.

If you have any specific access requirements or anything you would like us to be aware of when running the event, please let us know via the booking form (if you are offered a place) or email luarts@lboro.ac.uk in advance of booking and we will do our best to accommodate them.
