Sculpture on campus on sunny day

Sculpture Week

LU Arts is running a series of events to celebrate and raise awareness of our campus sculpture collection.

NEUSCHLOSS and Richard Johnson (Teacher in Graphic Communication and Illustration in the School of Design and Creative Arts) will be delivering an online talk about Sculptural Imagination on 6 March. Richard illustrated ‘Our Tower’, a story by Waterstones Children’s Laureate 2022-24 Joseph Coelho. The illustrations feature ‘The Watchers’, one of the sculptures on our East Midlands Campus.

There will be a sculpture tour around campus on 8 March to coincide with the launch of a new sculpture leaflet, illustrated by Lauren from Pickle Illustration, one of the Edward Sharp Prize winners. If you can’t make the tour you can follow the sculpture trial on Google Maps.

Cleaved Into: a sculpture writing workshop will also be held on 8 March to celebrate the launch of Cleaved Into.  Cleaved Into is an activity pack prompting engagement with the University’s sculpture collection. Responding to some of its prompts, attendees will produce short pieces of creative writing that will be collated into a ‘zine to be given away with selected copies of Cleaved Into. No creative writing experience or sculptural knowledge is required. All participants will receive a free copy of Cleaved Into.

Following the Fresh Eyes on Sculpture photography competition, the winning photos will be unveiled in the Library during the week for staff and students to view.
