Loughborough joins organisations from across the country to support and engage with Race Equality Week (6-12 February)

As part of the University Strategy, one of our strategic aims is to become a more equitable, diverse and inclusive organisation.

Race Equality Week is an annual UK-wide movement organised by Race Equality Matters. The event unites thousands of organisations and individuals to address the barriers to race equality in the workplace, and Loughborough University will be actively participating in the initiative.

There is a range of resources that you can engage with over the week, including videos and articles. For example, as part of the 5-Day Challenge, spending just 5 minutes each day over the week can help increase your awareness of race and racism, empowering you to take action that helps to reduce harm across our institution.

Race Equality Matters will also be hosting a number of virtual events that feature discussions with industry leaders from a variety of sectors.

Whilst the specific focus of marking Race Equality Week will be on achieving race equity, it is also an opportunity to encourage one another to reflect on the experience of marginalised groups in society.

The theme for this year’s Race Equality Week is #ItsEveryonesBusiness, which aligns well with the ‘Together’ aspect of our Strategy, which recognises that for a successful, prosperous future we must embrace all our community in an inclusive, respectful, and collaborative manner.

By acting responsibly and authentically, we can all contribute to creating a more inclusive culture that embraces and celebrates our differences – differences in race, culture, experience, background, and ways of thinking, ensuring those differences are not barriers to progression and are instead seen in a positive light.
