Fresh Eyes on Sculpture: A campus photography competition

LU Arts have launched a photography competition for Loughborough University students and staff.

They will choose nine outstanding photographs to be displayed in Pilkington Library, with cash prizes for the two best entries:

  • First prize: £250
  • One runner-up: £100

They are looking for photographs that present new ways of looking at campus sculptures. Silhouettes, close-ups, long exposures, or photographs taken from an unusual angle: anything, in fact, that offers a fresh perspective on works that thousands of people see every day.

Photographs can be analogue or digital (though analogue works will need to be scanned); colour, sepia or black and white; and works with significant editing will be accepted, including composite and collage works.

Submissions can be landscape or portrait, though winning works will be printed portrait (with borders if necessary) due to the layout of the exhibition area. You don’t need to use expensive or specialist equipment, but should submit your photograph in the highest resolution possible.

Please see the sculpture map for a complete list, with locations.

Submit your entry via our online form. If you need assistance with this then please email luarts@lboro.ac.uk. You can submit up to three photos. The deadline for entries is Sunday 19 February at 7pm

Entries will be judged by a panel consisting of David Bell, University Curator; Alan Duncan, University Teacher in Photography; and Emma Walton, Director of Library Services.

Accessibility

We want this opportunity to be accessible to all students and staff. We welcome application forms in different formats eg audio if this is more appropriate for you. If you would like to discuss any accessibility issues in advance of applying or to discuss how the opportunity can be made inclusive for you, then please email luarts@lboro.ac.uk or call 01509 222948.

This competition is part of Sculpture Week: a series of activities celebrating our campus sculpture collection.
