Don’t miss Loughborough’s own sustainable fashion show

Loughborough Students’ Union, with support from LU Arts, Enva, Student Success Academy and Loughborough Enterprise Network, is hosting ‘Reinvent’ on 14 March, 6.30pm.

This is a chance to marvel at the showstopping fashion coming to life on the catwalk, all designed by students using recycled and sustainable materials.

The fashion show will have four categories:

Re-Wear:

This category is open to all students and they are tasked with assembling catwalk ready looks out of thrifted items - proving that there are plenty of hidden gems in second-hand shops. The winning designer will receive a £50 prize from LU Arts.

Re-Purpose:

This category takes waste and recycled materials to create one-of-a-kind looks that personally represent the vision of each student designer. The winner of this category will receive a £100 prize for their creation from Enva.

Re-Generate:

This group were tasked with revamping existing fabrics and materials to create something fabulous for the runway. The winning designer will receive a £200 prize from the Student Success Academy.

Re-Invent:

Led by artist Bruce Asbestos, this cohort of students worked with him to focus on high fashion and Avant Garde creations using recycled materials. Their creations will bring this runway show to a close and the winning designer will receive a £200 cash prize from the Loughborough Enterprise Network.

Each category will have a judging panel who will select the best designer out of each category.

Tickets for the show are £5 and include a complimentary drink. LSU is also committing to planting a tree for every ticket sold.

LSU Enterprise Community Lead, Rachel Curtis said: “The fashion industry is the second biggest polluter in the world, contributing to about 10% of global carbon emissions. Sustainable fashion aims to reduce the negative impact on people, animals and the planet. Lots of small actions make a big difference, so attending events like this and continuing the conversation helps to create a better future for our planet.”
