Music tuition now available for staff and students

LU Arts is currently taking enquiries for music tuition from staff and students of all ability levels, including beginners. This is a great way to keep up your playing while at University, or start a new hobby.

Lessons are available in the following this semester:

  • Piano
  • Violin
  • Viola
  • Guitar (electric and acoustic)
  • Saxophone
  • Clarinet
  • Flute
  • Voice (e.g. singing)

You will need to bring your own instruments unless you are taking singing or piano lessons. If you do not have one, please mention this on your enquiry form as tutors can occasionally loan instruments.

Lessons cost £25 an hour for students and £30 an hour for staff. You will need to sign up for an initial block of eight hours, after which you can top-up in two-hour blocks. The tutors will liaise with you as to how your eight hours is used i.e. the frequency and duration of lessons. This will depend on your ability level, what you are looking to get out of your lessons and your timetable and availability.

Lessons will take place in the music practice rooms located in Martin Hall and the Edward Barnsley Building. Tutors will work to find a day and time that works best for both of you. If you have any specific accessibility needs, please outline them in the enquiry form and LU Arts will do their best to meet them.

Anyone who is interested will need to complete an online enquiry form on the LU Arts website. Afterwards, the appropriate tutor will contact you to discuss your tuition arrangements. Once these have been agreed, you will be sent a booking link to pay via the University online store. As the music tutors have limited spaces, these will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Please note that singing is already close to capacity. A waiting list will be kept for anyone who misses out and they will be contacted at the start of semester two, if spaces become available.

If you have any questions about music tuition or would like to discuss any accessibility requirements, then please email luarts@lboro.ac.uk.
