Let's Talk Loughborough Black History Month

Let’s Talk Loughborough on Black History Month

The podcast welcomed the Chief Operating Officer, the Wellbeing and Diversity Executive Officer and the Ethnic Minorities Chair for an episode reflecting on Black History Month.

Nyasha Mukonoweshuro and Anouska Johnson spoke about why Black History Month is important and what the Students’ Union is doing to improve race equity.

Nyasha commented: “I think Black History Month is important because it gives us the opportunity to recognise the contributions of people with African and Caribbean heritage and some of the contributions Black people have made to society. It is a really important time to uplift and highlight their achievements.”

Richard Taylor also joined the conversation to discuss the work the University is doing and the support available to staff and students. He added: “The really key message I want to say to staff and to students is that racism is unacceptable, and colleagues and students should feel that they can call it out when it is experienced and expect that the University will take them seriously with any issues brought to our attention.”

Let’s Talk Loughborough is available to listen to on all mainstream podcast platforms including Apple Podcasts and Spotify. It can also be viewed on the University’s YouTube channel

The University and the Students’ Union are currently hosting a programme of events to mark Black History Month.
