Weekend event celebrates campus harvest and a decade of LAGS

An event taking place this Saturday, 8 October will shine a light on ten years of the University’s Landscape and Gardening Society (LAGS).

The annual Fruit Routes event is being held in the LAGS Garden behind the Edward Herbert Building (at the back of Car Park 5).

The schedule for the afternoon is as follows:

  • 12pm onwards: Apple Pressings (bring a bottle!) – help press juice or bring your own apples to make fresh juice and cider
  • 1pm: Fruit Routes walk with scavenger hunt and games – enjoy a 1km route along campus
  • 2.30pm: Bake-off judging with prizes - produce a bake for the competition using locally grown fruit, whilst enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.
  • 3pm: Pumpkin carving, nature collages, along with other crafts and games

Staff, students, and the local community are all welcome to attend to learn more about the Fruit Routes Project and the food growing on our campus.

About LAGS

The Landscape and Gardening Society has converted what was a compacted lawn into a beautiful sustainable garden with vegetables, fruit trees and bushes as well as flowers and herbs – all grown in a way that is environmentally friendly and provides a habitat for wildlife and pollinators.

Members of LAGS are given the opportunity to learn and practice gardening skills as well as how to use grown produce for cooking. The society collaborates with a number of local groups promoting sustainable living, and its work has been recognised by the Royal Horticultural Society.

Free fruit grown on campus available to collect

Fruit harvested from across the Loughborough campus is also now available for staff and students to collect for free for their own use. Distribution points are located at the Students’ Union, the Edward Herbert Building Atrium, Wolfson Café and outside Bom Bom Patisserie.
