Watch Emilia Clarke’s West End debut at Cope Auditorium’s next NT Live screening

A modern retelling of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull will be broadcast at Loughborough University this autumn as part of National Theatre Live’s programme of screenings.

The screening will take place on 3 November at 7pm at the Cope Auditorium.

Emilia Clarke, known for her roles in Game of Thrones and Me Before You, will be making her West End debut in this retelling of Chekhov’s classic tale of love and loneliness.

Anya Reiss’s 21st century adaption, directed by Jamie Lloyd, tells the story of a young woman, desperate for fame and a way out. A young man is pining after the woman of his dreams. A successful writer longs for a sense of achievement. An actress wants to fight the changing of the times.

In an isolated home in the countryside, dreams lie in tatters, hopes are dashed, and hearts broken. With nowhere left to turn, the only option is to turn on each other.

Following his critically acclaimed five-star production of Cyrano de Bergerac, Jamie Lloyd brings Anya Reiss’ adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s classic play to stage. Filmed live in London’s West End, the cast includes Tom Rhys Harries (White Lines), Daniel Monks (The Normal Heart), Sophie Wu (Fresh Meat) and Indira Varma (Game of Thrones).

The I gave this production a five-star rating, describing it as a ‘brutally beautiful production’, and Time Out called main star Emilia Clarke ‘irresistible’ in Lloyd’s ‘stripped back take on Chekhov’s masterpiece’.

General tickets are £10 or £5 for students and are available online or on the door. Subject to availability, cash and card payments can be taken on the door and the Cope Auditorium has free parking.
