Students: Contribute to the LU Climate Action campaign and be in with a chance to win a £100 voucher

The LU Climate Action campaign is an opportunity for students to have their say on sustainability issues at the University and to take a lead in making positive changes across our Loughborough campus.

LU Arts has commissioned Angela YT Chan, a researcher, curator and artist specialising in climate change, to lead this campaign. The project is already well underway after a series of events that took place in October:

  • Campus conservation walk: University arborist Rich Fenn-Griffin and the student environmental society Loughborough Greens led a stroll through the ancient woods located on the edge of campus. Attendees learnt about the biodiversity of the trees and wildlife that resides there.

  • More recently, staff and students were invited to listen to academics Dr James Esson (Reader in Human Geography) and Dr Jamie Kenyon (Senior Lecturer in Sport Management) discuss their research areas and how they relate sports and development to the pressing climate and sustainability challenges we face today.

The final event for the campaign will be a Student Assembly on Monday 21 November. Here, students will meet with the University’s senior managers to discuss the next steps for positive climate and sustainability-led actions at Loughborough. If you would like to attend this event, please email luarts@lboro.ac.uk.

Prior to this, all students are encouraged to take part in an online survey which will help to shape the discussions at the event next month. It only takes five minutes to complete, and it is your opportunity to voice what your key concerns are in regards to sustainability at Loughborough, as well as what you feel can be improved as we face urgent climate change.

For those who participate in the survey, you’ll be in with a chance to win one of three £100 vouchers to spend at Eco Replenishers, a zero-waste and refill shop based in Loughborough. To ensure you’re included in the prize draw, please enter your Loughborough University email address when asked to in the survey.

The deadline to take part in the survey is Friday 11 November
