Students and staff wanted: Help make Loughborough a Hedgehog Friendly Campus by volunteering for our upcoming litter pick

On Thursday 17 November from 1pm-2pm, a team of students and staff are invited to volunteer for a litter pick starting at Claudia Parsons Hub and working around the sports pitches and surrounding areas.

By taking part in this challenge, you will be helping hedgehogs and other wildlife from potentially becoming trapped and entangled in plastic packaging, which can lead to creatures suffocating or severely injuring themselves on sharp or tight objects.

Sadly, many hedgehogs die every year because of this. Taking part will not only help clean our campus and potentially save lots of animals, but it will also help Loughborough University’s team to tick an action towards their Hedgehog Friendly Campus Bronze award!

What’s in it for me?

The litter pick is part of a national competition led by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society, and the winning campus will receive a free Hedgehog House complete with a bag of hedgehog food.

If you are a first-year student, your participation in this event will be recorded and count towards your hall’s sustainable engagement hours within the Green League. This will contribute towards your hall’s Hall of the Year award, as well as offer the potential to earn up to £250 per term for your hall.

If you are a staff member, you will be able to use your staff volunteering hours for this.

Please email enviroassist@lboro.ac.uk if you would like to attend.
