Jumpers for Goalposts exhibition now open – here’s a look inside!

An exhibition that brings together art, design, science, and football-related research from across Loughborough University is now open to the public – and you can have a peek inside thanks to a new teaser video.

Jumpers for Goalposts; Improvisation, Experimentation and Play is showcasing work from Fine Art, the Sports Technology Institute, Architecture, Design, and Coaching until Friday 16 December 2022.

Hosted in the Fine Art Gallery, the space has been transformed into a unique indoor pitch that features artwork, video projection and games.

The research on show offers special, usually unseen, insights into the science and engineering that sits behind the game, and the various ingenious paraphernalia that orbits the nation's favourite sport.

From ball design to foosball tables, turf science to tactics, there’s something for everyone.

The exhibition, which is free to visit, has been curated by Dr Mike Shaw and Dr Phil Barber.

“Jumpers for Goalposts explores the art and science of the things that make football possible from the balls, kits, and fans through to stadia and pitches”, commented Dr Shaw.

“Perhaps more importantly it features a bespoke table football game, so why not come along and try your luck…”

The Fine Art Gallery is part of Creative Arts (Edward Barnsley Building) and is on the opposite side of Epinal Way to the main campus. Visit the campus map for directions.
