Charnwood Borough Council seeking temporary Election staff

Charnwood Borough Council is seeking to employ staff to work the local elections that will be taking place in May 2023. Therefore, they will require staff to be at each of the polling stations across the borough.

The roles are for a very short period of time during the elections, ranging from a few hours up to a few days at most.

The minimum age required for all roles is 18, and although most vacancies do not require experience, they do require a commitment to the role. All appointed staff will be required to sign their agreement to maintain the secrecy of the ballot and must not work on behalf of a candidate during an election campaign or be related to a prospective candidate.

The roles currently available are:

  • Polling station staff
  • Presiding officer
  • Poll clerk
  • Postal vote openers
  • Count staff
  • Ballot box handlers
  • Overnight count assistants
  • Daytime count assistants

A list of all the roles and their brief descriptions can be found on the Charnwood Borough Council website. If you are interested or have any further questions, email electoral.services@charnwood.gov.uk or consult the frequently asked questions webpage.

All roles are paid, although the council has yet to confirm the rate of pay changes for every election.
