Loughborough University Nursery named finalists at NDNA Awards 2022

Loughborough University Nursery has been shortlisted for the National Day Nurseries Association in the Play and Learn Category for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Creative Adventure was launched by Head of Nursery, Caroline Farley in collaboration with Dance Artist, Liz Clarke back in 2017.

Together they have revolutionised play for children with SEND, developing a programme using movement and sensory stimuli that is inclusive to all.  The initiative focuses on non-verbal aspects of communication such as gestures, facial expressions, sounds as well as movement.

Caroline states: “Through Creative Adventure, our children’s communication skills have improved significantly. It’s also positively impacted their wellbeing and sense of identity and belonging. It celebrates each child’s uniqueness and creativity.”

Creative Adventure is having an impact far and wide. Loughborough University Nursery has been sharing this initiative and its best practices via several conferences and early years publications. Loughborough University Nursery has also been recognised by the local authorities as having practices that are outstanding in supporting children with SEND.

The award ceremony will take place on 24 June 2022, where the winners will be announced. To find out more about Loughborough University’s Nursery, please click here.
