Inspired by the urgency of the social, cultural, political and environmental changes that face us today, Transitions provides a space for collective discussion and debate, to help pave the way for more informed, cross-disciplinary thinking.
The Festival will take many forms – from lectures, seminars, workshops and panel discussions, to film screenings, installations and participatory art projects and storywalks, convened in partnership with LUArts. A number of events will focus on climate change and environmental transformation, looking at ways we can transition to more sustainable and equitable futures. Another key focus during the Festival is on trans lives and the importance of transforming cultural attitudes around gender, race and sexuality.
Postgraduate students will have a full-day event focused on career development during the Festival, and colleagues are invited to share in creative conversations toward making positive change in the University.
A highlight of Transitions will be celebrating the tenth anniversary of Fruit Routes through a series of mini-events on 17 and 19 May, convened in partnership with artist Anne-Marie Culhane and the University’s Sustainability Team, featuring performances, discussion events and opportunities to share stories and taste foraged food from the campus
IAS Director, Professor Marsha Meskimmon said: "The IAS is delighted that the Festival of Ideas on Transitions, postponed from 2021, will at last take place in its full and vibrant form on the Loughborough campus. Transitions has something for everyone – and everyone is welcome to participate."
Working with the IAS are Festival Leads: Dr Ines Varela-Silva, Dr Gemma Witcomb, Dr Rachael Grew and Professor Hilary Robinson from the University.
