Loughborough to host inaugural Black in Sport Summit

Loughborough University is thrilled to announce that it will host the inaugural Black in Sport Summit (BISS) – with the aim of inspiring students from all backgrounds to strive for excellence.

The event, held in collaboration with the University’s Afro-Caribbean Society, will take place on Saturday 26th March at the Holywell Park Conference Centre and will bring together some of sport’s highest profile black athletes and professionals.

BISS will consist of panel discussions, Q & A’s, interviews, and networking, all focusing on three core themes: opportunity, resilience, and growth.

The star-studded lineup includes Commonwealth Gold medallist netballer Ama Agbeze MBE, and Loughborough’s own Paralympic Games gold medallist, Thomas Young.

Samuel Ola, a current Loughborough University student and co-founder of BISS, said:

“BISS has been created to champion the achievements of black people in sport and to create a platform to allow our students to engage with these inspirational figures.

“This is a unique opportunity to meet some of the most high-profile black athletes and sporting professionals in the UK.

“To be able to meet these people, have conversations with them and hear their experiences, is a once in a lifetime opportunity. You can’t miss out on this chance to be in the same room as such impactful people.”

Professor Nick Jennings, Vice-Chancellor and President of Loughborough University, said:

“The Black in Sport Summit is a fantastic student-led initiative. By providing a platform to champion the achievements of black people in sport, we hope to change the narrative and inspire the next generation of sport leaders.

“BISS also aligns closely with the University’s EDI (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) strategy and we look forward to hosting this unique event here on campus.”

Ticket prices for BISS start from just £7 (includes lunch) and can be purchased by clicking here. For more information on the event, visit its dedicated website here
