Planned upgrade: Campus printing service

Creative and Print Services will be upgrading the self-service swipe card printers across campus over the coming month.

What is happening?

These printers will be upgraded to new machines with updated software and an online user interface.

The deployment programme is expected to start the week commencing 11 July 2022.

A small number of devices will be moving. Another group of devices, based on usage over the last two and a half years, and inaccessible locations, will be removed.

The devices themselves will look very similar to the ones currently in use. They will still be swipe card activated but operate on a new software system called PaperCut. This software brings with it some new features including an online user interface that details usage and environmental impact.

The deployment calendar, listing every printer (identifiable by the number on the front of the device) will be made available on the University website with information about the week each device is expected to be swapped out. This will be updated in real-time as things progress.

What do I need to do?

There is nothing for you to do. Once a new printer has been installed, users can immediately register on the new system by syncing their ID card with the software.

Afterwards, users will be able to print, copy and scan at any device on both campuses simply by sending their file to the new queues and then swiping their ID card at the printer. Details of this process will soon be available on our website.

What happens next?

Further information will be available later this week, with hyperlinks to key user information.

Thank you for your patience and support as this refresh progresses.
