Ivor Smith

It is with great sadness we inform you of the death of Ivor Smith, who sadly passed away 23 January aged 92.

Ivor was a well-loved, dedicated academic colleague based within the Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering. Joining Loughborough in 1974 as a Professor of Electrical Power Engineering, he went on to serve roles as Head of Department, Dean of Faculty and as Pro Vice-Chancellor. He was also awarded the title of Emeritus Professor in 2001.

His extensive research into the field of pulsed power was widely respected, and Ivor was recognised for this when elected as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. He authored and contributed to over 450 technical papers and was an independent member of the MoD's Defence Scientific Advisory Council (DSAC). More information about his expertise can be viewed here.

Our thoughts and sincere condolences go to the friends and family of Ivor and all those at the University who knew him.
