Top academic students celebrated at formal dinner

On 15 February, the Vice-Chancellor and the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education & Student Experience hosted the Academic Excellence Awards Celebration Dinner to recognise and reward the top-performing students across the University.

The Scholars were recognised for their achievement as the top-performing student in their Schools for the previous academic year, and each received a cheque of £500.

Due to the pandemic, the University also celebrated the success of the 2019-2020 Scholarship winners who were not able to attend their own event due to the national lockdowns.

The Deans and Associate Deans for Teaching from each School and colleagues from Loughborough Students’ Union were also in attendance. The event included a drinks reception, followed by an awards ceremony and a three-course dining experience.

Professor Rachel Thomson commented: “I am incredibly proud of the achievements of all of Loughborough’s students, especially the way they have risen to the challenges of the last couple of years. It is important that we recognise and celebrate success.

“These students have not only achieved academic excellence through their hard work and determination, but have impressively managed to combine that with fully participating in University life, in our clubs and societies, volunteering and raising money for charity, and competing in a range of sports. I would also like to thank and acknowledge the contributions of the staff right across the University who support our students to succeed.”
