Student Futsal Club to appear on BT Sport as part of National Futsal Series

The Men’s First team from Loughborough University’s Student Futsal Club will be featured on BT Sport TV this weekend as part of the FA National Futsal Series.

Futsal is a football-associated game that takes place in a sports hall with a slightly smaller ball. A game takes place between two teams of five, one of which is the goalkeeper, and the game lasts 40 minutes (split into two equal periods of 20 minutes, with a break in between).

Loughborough Students Futsal Club is one of the leading futsal clubs in the country, and currently has a team in the first division (NFS) and a development team in the second division. Last season, the first team finished second in a regular season and the development team won the second division North group.

The club has had five championship wins, with three back-to-back championship wins in the 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2021-22 seasons (2019-20 and 2020-21 did not go ahead as a result of Covid-19). The men's club currently has five sides and the women's club has two. It offers playing opportunities for students of all abilities, from competing in the National Futsal Series to IMS futsal.

BT Sport will be broadcasting the whole Futsal series, and Loughborough will be playing the main event on 11 December. Tune in to cheer our team on, see Head Coach Jose Llorente Parra interviewed pre- and post-match, and find out who Player of the Match has been awarded to.

Jose commented: “This an important game for us. Manchester was the team who knocked us out of the semi-final last season, but in the last few rounds we have shown our potential and we look to do it again on Sunday. Being broadcast on BT will be an added bonus to the game, to showcase not only our sport but Loughborough University as a whole."
