Loughborough Festivities asset - festive drawings

Activities for students staying in Loughborough over Christmas

Over the festive period (19 December-4 January) the University is running a series of activities for all students staying in Loughborough.

From trips out to quiz nights, these events will get you in the holiday spirit.

The programme of activity is as follows:

19 December

International Students’ Network Scavenger Hunt: 11am-4pm, Meet outside the Spar in the Students’ Union – no booking required

  • A campus-wide scavenger hunt with prizes available for the first five people to complete it correctly.

Academic Language Support Service vacation classes: 9.30am-12.30pm, Stewart Mason Building

  • Appropriate use of sources in writing (SMB002): In this workshop, you will work on writing effecting summaries, paraphrasing and using quotations and writing correctly formatted in-text references. You will also look at source synthesis and how you can build this into your own writing.
  • Effective spoken communication for seminar discussions (SMB010): The aim of this workshop is to help you contribute effectively to group discussions and express your opinion more confidently in spoken English.

20 December

Academic Language Support Service vacation classes: 9.30am-12.30pm, Stewart Mason Building

  • Understanding and effective use of academic style in writing (SMB002): In this workshop, you will look at academic style features and practice writing using appropriate academic style.
  • Seminar participation skills (SMB010): This workshop focuses on using a range of typical spoken reporting language in seminars, reporting your findings from your reading to others and using a range of appropriate presentation language expressions more confidently.

LU Arts: Basics to Bharatanatyam: 1pm-3pm, venue confirmed on booking

  • Try out the southern Indian classical dance of Bharatanatyam.
  • Learn the basic postures, hand gestures, eye movements, leg positions and be able to emote and express emotion only with the use of hand gestures and body language.

Festive Fun at Harry French: 4pm, Harry French Common Room

  • Come along for Christmas snacks and games.

Loughborough Men’s Football: Loughborough vs Melton Town FC: 7.45pm, Loughborough University Stadium

  • Students can attend for free on presentation of student ID.
21 December

Trip to Nottingham Winter Wonderland: 10am-5pm, coach pick up on University Road outside Wolfson

26 December

Boxing Day Bash and Secret Santa: 12pm-2.30pm, The Hub (Village Park Halls)

Boxing Day Walk: 2.30pm-3.30pm, The Hub (Village Park Halls) – no booking required

  • Meet outside The Hub for a walk to the Bluebell Woods.
  • Please note this will be weather dependent.
28 December

Christmas Crafternoon: 1pm-3pm, Royce Common Room – no booking required

30 December

Games Night: 7pm-9pm, Royce Common Room – no booking required

2 January

New Year’s Walk: 12.30pm-2pm, meet outside entrance to Pilkington Library – no booking required

4 January

LU Arts: Marbling Workshop: 1pm-3pm, Venue TBC

  • Marbling consists of floating ink or paint on a surface to create a pattern.

Big New Year’s Quiz: 7pm-9pm, Royce Common Room – no booking required

  • Exciting prizes to win including Deliveroo vouchers and more.
