Information about the 2022 School Games National Finals

The School Games National Finals returns to Loughborough University from 1 – 4 September 2022. The multi-sport event is designed to give young athletes an educational experience and a taste of what it is like to participate in a major multi-sport competition. This year sees the welcome return of spectators to the event.

Staff will be able to spectate all events for free by using the discount code SGNFCOMMUNITY.  Book your tickets

There will be significant activity on campus in advance of, during and after the period of competition.  

Local users of the campus should be aware of the following information: 

Car park closures 

  • Car Park 5: Friday 26 August – Monday 5 September 

  • Pool Car Park: Monday 29 August – Sunday 4 September from the crossing onwards. On Thursday 1 and Saturday 4 September, the whole car park will be closed. 

  • Haslegrave Car Park: Saturday 27 August – Monday 6 September 

  • Hockey Car Park and Library Car Park: Wednesday 31 August – Sunday 4 September 

  • Car Park 18: Saturday 27 August – Sunday 4 September 

  • NCSEM Car Park: Saturday 3 September 

  • Loughborough Students’ Union Car Park: Thursday 1 and Saturday 3 September 

Road closures 

Friday 2 September  

The road adjacent to Hazlerigg/ Rutland Fountain will be closed from 6pm–9pm for the Opening Ceremony. Diversions around East Park will be in place. 

Friday 2 September (from 6pm) – Saturday 3 September (until 9pm) 

The route from James France to the Edward Herbert Building will be closed for the Cycling Street Sprints.  

Saturday 3 September 

Road Circuit around the Central Park of campus will be closed from 5am-9pm for Cycling and Triathlon. During this time East Park access will be maintained. 

In addition, the East Park roads will be closed for Triathlon from 4pm-9pm. During this time the East entrance will be closed, with all campus access via the West Entrance.  

 

Noise, including PA system usage and Firework Display 

The Ceremony will take place on the Hazlerigg / Rutland Fountain area. There will be activity at the following times.  

  • Thursday 2 September: 7pm–9pm – Sound Testing and Rehearsals 

  • Friday 3 September: 3.30pm-9pm, including fireworks at 8.50pm.  

Outdoor sports will also have PA systems in operation for commentary and presentations at the following times: 

  • Friday 2 September, 9am-6pm: National Cricket Academy, Hockey Pitch, Athletics Track, and Brockington Cricket Pitch 

  • Saturday 4 September, 8am-5pm: Shirley Pearce Square, Hockey Pitch, National Cricket Academy, Athletics Track, Road adjacent to Walled Garden, Swimming Pool Car Park 

  • Sunday 4 September: 8.30am-3.30pm – Hockey Pitch and Brockington Cricket Pitch
