Students: There’s still time to apply for paid opportunities with LU Arts

LU Arts is currently advertising a range of paid creative opportunities that aim to provide students with additional skills and knowledge to help them stand out upon completing their studies.

If you have a passion for spoken poetry or music – or have always wanted to lead or support an event or exhibition – keep reading to find out how you can get involved. 

Speech Bubble Coordinator 2021/22 

Speech Bubble is LU Arts’ performance poetry night held in the Students’ Union, comprising of a headline professional poet with open mic slots for students. Two events are held in the autumn and spring terms.   

If you’re motivated, enthusiastic and organised and want to gain experience in events management, marketing and arts administration, then you could be the next Speech Bubble Coordinator. The successful candidate will receive support from the LU Arts team and Lecturer in Creative Writing, Kerry Featherstone.  

No prior experience is necessary but an interest in poetry, enthusiasm and creative ideas to ensure the success of events is a must. A fee of £400 will be provided to organise the events.

Open Mic Music Night Coordinator 2021/22 

Open Mic Music Night, previously known as Acoustic Night, is a live music night that showcases student musicians and songwriters from a range of genres.  

It is also held in the Students’ Union in the spring and autumn terms.  

This role is a must for anyone who loves music, wants to help provide a platform for student musicians to perform to an audience, and is looking to gain valuable event management skills. You’ll receive support from the LU Arts team throughout.  

No prior experience is necessary but enthusiasm and creative ideas to ensure the success of the event is a must. A fee of £400 will be provided to organise the events.

Student Technical Support 

The team are looking to appoint one or more Student Technicians to support the delivery of the LU Arts programme. 

Examples of what you can get involved in include installing exhibitions, pop-up events on campus and in town, as well as setting up spaces for workshops, performances and other events. 

The ideal candidate will have basic joinery/woodworking skills and an understanding of audio visual (AV) equipment. They will also be comfortable using a range of tools and AV devices to support activity. However, training will be provided.  

The hours are casual and require flexibility, so should not be considered a regular financial income. Student technicians are paid an hourly rate of £9.99.

Eligibility 

These opportunities are open to students of all levels on any course. The Speech Bubble Coordinator and Open Mic Music Night Coordinator roles are open to both London and East Midlands-based students.
