Bennett joins Loughborough as Lead Endurance Coach

Loughborough University has announced Kyle Bennett as its new athletics Lead Endurance Coach.

Bennett will succeed Loughborough icon George Gandy who sadly passed away in October 2020.

He joins the University after seven successful years as Head Endurance Coach at Oxford University whilst also holding the position of Regional Coaching Lead for Endurance (Midlands) for England Athletics.

Bennett has over sixteen years’ experience of coaching juniors to international athletes and is also the talent lead on the youth and junior talent programmes for England Athletics.

“I’m really excited to join the fantastic coaching team at Loughborough University,” commented Kyle.

"We have a fantastic network of coaches and support staff already in place, and we will look to create the best endurance programme in the country by building on the amazing work George [Gandy] and his team have created.

"It is certainly going to be an exciting time to be a student-athlete here."

During his time at Oxford, Bennett led the men's team to bronze at the 2017 and 2018 British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Championships whilst there was also notable success in the European and World Cross Country Championships, and the World Student Games.

Femi Akinsanya, Director of Athletics, Loughborough University added:

“It goes without saying that George [Gandy] left an unbelievable legacy here at Loughborough and on the wider athletics world.

“To have someone of Kyle’s talent and calibre join the programme to build on those solid foundations is great news for all associated with the programme.

“We can’t wait to welcome Kyle to the Loughborough family as we support him to take the endurance athletics to the next level.”
