How to Adult was a podcast series launched in October 2020 by Loughborough Campus Radio (LCR) and the University that uncovered themes related to student life, particularly targeted for new students transitioning from school to higher education.
From finance and careers to mental health and living more sustainably, the host Lucie Lewis – a current student at the time of recording – spoke to numerous staff and students who offered various support services and expertise in the different topics discussed. Altogether, 16 episodes were produced and shared throughout the 2020/21 academic year.
The judges described the podcast as ‘informative and engaging’ with ‘superb scripting’ alongside comments stating that they thought “Lucie [was] a terrific host - lovely writing, great questions and a warm and engaging tone”.
The awards took place at the O2 Arena in London and a group of students who volunteer their time for LCR attended to represent the station.
Not only did they win Silver for the podcast, but they were also presented with a Gold award for Best Technical Achievement and a Bronze award for Best Entertainment Programming.
Lucie Lewis commented: “This was my first and last Student Radio Awards as Station Manager of LCR, and I could not be prouder of the entire station. We achieved so much in such a difficult year, so I can't think of a better note to end my time at Loughborough on.
"How To Adult was an absolute labour of love throughout the pandemic, so to have that recognised nationally is out of this world. I'm so grateful to Loughborough University for working with me on the project and giving me the opportunity to make it in the first place."
