Campbell shines in Loughborough throws event

Sunday 28th February saw Loughborough host the first major outdoor athletics event of 2021, as the University co-hosted the Loughborough Winter Throws Meeting with British Athletics.

The women’s hammer was won by Jess Mayho (coach: John Pearson) who threw a personal best of 67.07m, taking her to 6th on the UK all-time list. Loughborough alumnus Taylor Campbell (Pearson) won the men’s event with 74.38m and with several other throws also measuring over the 74m line, it was Campbell’s best series of competitive throws to date.

The Discus saw a double win for Scotland. In the Men’s event, Nick Percy (Zane Duquemin) took the win with 60.95m, whilst Loughborough-based Kirsty Law (Duquemin) added another 57m throw to her collection with 57.28m.  First-year Loughborough Scholar, Taia Tunstall (Stuart Carlaw) threw the 2nd furthest throw of her fledgling career with 48.49m good enough for 3rd place.

Thank you, as ever, to the fantastic officials that made the day run smoothly.

Report written by Loughborough’s Head of Throws, Dave Turner.
