Update on student recruitment for the 2021-22 academic year

You may have seen in the news that this year the number of students achieving top grades at A level reached a record high.

This has meant that a higher proportion of students have achieved the grades required to meet the offers from universities. As a result, at Loughborough we are expecting an increased number of new undergraduate students to start courses with us in the autumn.

The additional undergraduate students are spread across several academic Schools, but a significant number will be studying in the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences, the School of Business and Economics, and the School of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Postgraduate recruitment and admissions are continuing and details of postgraduate recruitment figures will be clearer towards the start of term, although we expect that challenges with international travel may still affect the final number of postgraduate taught students.

“This has been an unusual year for undergraduate recruitment, and we are very grateful to all the colleagues in the admissions teams in both Schools and the Professional Services who have worked tirelessly in response,” said Professor Rachel Thomson, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Teaching.

“It is great that so many high-quality students have chosen to come to Loughborough. We will work to ensure that all our students are able to benefit from the excellent all-round experience we offer at Loughborough and that staff workloads are not adversely affected.

“To this end, Operations Committee has agreed a package of additional investment to enable Schools and Professional Services to recruit to a number of additional positions, such as University Teachers, Programme Administrators and support roles in Student Services. New Graduate University Teacher roles will also be introduced across a number of the Schools to provide additional support for both teaching and pastoral activities.”

Advertisements for these posts will be placed over the next week to enable the recruitment process to begin as soon as possible.

We have now begun Experience Days on campus every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, which will continue until late September, for students interested in applying to Loughborough for 2022.
