REF 2021 survey

All staff involved in the University’s 2021 REF (Research Excellence Framework) return are encouraged to share their experiences and help inform the way we conduct research assessment and make progress towards future REF submissions.

The University submitted its REF return in March after a period of nearly three years.

The return included:

•         Over 900 staff across 16 Units of Assessment (UoA)

•         More than 2,000 outputs; 69 impact case studies

•         Almost 2,000 PhDs awarded

•         £282m worth of research income

Given the scale and the importance of REF, a Post-REF Review Working Group has been established to undertake a comprehensive review of the University REF 2021 submission and its underpinning processes, systems and structures.

The Review is intended to collate information from a wide variety of stakeholders to enable lessons to be learned for future assessment exercises. A survey will be followed by a series of focus groups in September and October. The aim is to present a completed report with findings and recommendations by December 2021.

We are keen to hear about people’s experiences of REF 2021 and what we could improve in the future, so would appreciate any time you can spare to complete the survey. This is your chance to inform and shape how Loughborough plans for the next REF. The survey will close at 5pm, 30 September.

Complete the survey here.

Further information about the University’s REF2021 return and resources to support future submissions are available on the Research and Enterprise staff website.
