Single-use supplement scheme suspended in campus outlets

The ‘Your Coffee needn’t cost the earth’ scheme introduced in February this year as part of our drive to be more sustainable and reduce the use of disposable cups has been suspended.

After having considered the safety of our retail staff and our customers, the decision has been taken to suspend the scheme until at least Christmas in light of COVID-19 risks.

This means that no discounts or supplements will be applied to any hot drinks in any outlet and we would ask that customers using our Coffee House and Meet & Eat outlets refrain from asking staff to fill a reusable cup.

If you choose to transfer any drink purchased from a disposable cup to a reusable cup, please dispose of the disposable cup in a cup bin or in a Non-Recyclables bin. The plastic lids can go in the plastics recycling bin.

Customers using the self-service machines in our Pantry outlets (EHB Shop, Design School, James France and West Park Teaching Hub) can still use a reusable cup as this does not need to be handed over but no discount will be applied. You will however be helping our environmental efforts still and in a time of increased use of disposables this is much appreciated.

Our reusable cups will still be on sale for use in the Pantry outlets, or for your own hot drink, when moving about the campus.

More information on our sustainability activities are detailed on our website and further details about our catering outlets are available here.
