Don’t miss out on music opportunities this term

LU Arts have lots of opportunities for staff and students to play and enjoy music on campus, whatever your musical tastes.

Keen musicians can book music tuition which is open to all levels from beginners to advanced. Tuition is available in singing, piano, guitar, violin, viola, brass, flute and saxophone. You purchase tuition in an eight hour block per semester at a subsidised cost of £200 for students and £240 for staff members. It is up to the student and the music tutor to decide the frequency and length of lessons, for example 30 minute lessons every week.

Due to the current restrictions in place, music tuition will take place online this semester but it is possible to book a music practice room to use for your lesson; you will need to take along your own device to use to login to the online lesson.

More information is available here. To enquire about tuition please email luarts@lboro.ac.uk.

The music practice rooms on campus have now re-opened with a new booking system in place. There are six rooms located in Martin Hall and, at the present time, they can be used for solo acoustic practice only. The rooms are open from 8am to 10pm seven days a week but as part of the new safety measures in place, you must book in advance. There are antibacterial wipes and hand sanitiser in each room and new rules have been put in place for all users to follow in order to keep everyone safe. Details of how to book and the full set of rules is available here. The large music practice behind the Cope Auditorium will remain closed for the time being.

Access to the music practice rooms is only available to Loughborough University staff and students and is free. To get access added to your campus staff/student card, you will need to first sign up to Music VIP, run by LU Arts. As well as being able to use the music practice rooms, Music VIP members are kept up to date with all the latest music news, opportunities and events on campus and beyond through regular e-newsletters. You can sign up to Music VIP for free here.

The popular Acoustic Night open mic night, showcasing the best musical talent on campus, will return as an online event on Monday 23 November. If you are interested in taking part in this event then email luarts@lboro.ac.uk. Details of how to access the live stream of this event will be added to the LU Arts website nearer the time.
