Happy Mondays is a weekly programme of art-based workshops and events taking place in Cogs in the Students’ Union, starting on 12 October.
Open to all students, the workshops are for every skill level, from complete beginner to those who have experience in the craft. Many of these are run by arts workers - current students who are trained and employed by LU Arts to run arts workshops. If you are interested in becoming an arts worker, more information is available here.
Happy Mondays workshops are a chance to learn a new skill, make something new, meet people, relax and have fun. Each workshop costs £3, which includes all your materials and places must be booked in advance. They will be run with social distancing measures in place; if you have any concerns about this, please email luarts@lboro.ac.uk.
If restrictions change then the workshops will be moved online, with materials available to pick up from the LU Arts office for anyone who has booked a place.
As well as the creative sessions, there are two performance nights to enjoy. Acoustic Night is an open mic music night showcasing the best music talent on campus. It will be organised by the singer-songwriter/contemporary music scholar for this year. Speech Bubble is a spoken word event, combining open mic slots with performances by professional poets. These events will both be online this term – livestream details will be announced nearer the time.
The team are currently looking to appoint a Speech Bubble Co-Ordinator to run the two Speech Bubble events this year. As well as gaining valuable skills in event management and marketing, you can earn £400. If you are interested in this position you can apply here. Applications are open until 12 October.
