Micky Yule won gold at the 2020 Road to Tokyo Para Powerlifting World Cup.

Loughborough’s Para-powerlifters take gold at the World Cup

One Loughborough student and two athletes who train on campus secured Gold in the 2020 Road to Tokyo Para Powerlifting World Cup.

The competition took place at Wythenshawe Forum, Manchester and saw student, Olivia Broome secure Gold in the Juniors and Bronze in the Seniors for her weight category.

Micky Yule and Louise Sugden who are part of the training programme here at Loughborough both won Gold. Sugden also went on the break the GB record twice, lifting 123kg and 125kg in her category.

Tom Whittaker, Head Coach and Performance Director at British Weightlifting and trainer to the athletes said:

"It was exciting to work with and watch three talented athletes demonstrating their physical potential in a competitive environment. All achieved a top 8 Tokyo qualification rankings which are required to become eligible for nomination to ParalympicsGB later this year. We are all proud of their ongoing pursuit and defence of Tokyo2020 qualification slots."
