The cycle ride is set to take place on Saturday 16 May, starting from the London campus at the Queen Elizabeth Park. Oliver hopes to make the 130-mile journey to the Loughborough campus in time to join the alumni reunion event which is taking place on the same day. 

As 2020 is an Olympic year, Oliver has chosen to raise funds for Sports Scholarships at the University. To date, the programme has helped over 400 students, many of whom have won medals on the world stage. 

Oliver said: "I had an incredible time at Loughborough, and I joined the Alumni Advisory Board to give back to the University which has given me everything.

“Some talented sports students need our support; without scholarships, they wouldn’t be able to take advantage of the outstanding facilities and support Loughborough offers. What better time to do this than in the Olympic year?" 

Joining Oliver on the heroic bike ride will be the Dean of Loughborough University London, Professor Tony Edwards, who added: "When Ollie mentioned this venture to me, I was delighted. I suspect I will be bringing up the rear of the group, but it will be great fun and will raise money for an excellent cause."
