Body Positivity Week

LSU’s HeadsUp association will be running a week of activities and events to promote body positivity from 19-25 March.

The week begins with a fashion and upcycling event in collaboration with LU Arts on 18 March. Hosted in the Fine Art Gallery Space, 2-6pm, students are invited to upcycle t-shirts with messages of body positivity.

The week begins with ‘boob printing’ workshops held in the Council Chambers on 19 March, 11am-5pm and 25 March, 1-6pm. This is a chance for women to embrace their bodies and feel empowered whilst designing their own t-shirts.

On 24 March, the EveryBODY panel talk will be held 7-8.45pm in Fusion. Four students will be sharing their personal stories about body image and discussing body positivity.

Body Positivity Officer, Laura Evans commented: “Struggling with an eating disorder growing up meant I had a poor relationship with my own body throughout much of my teenage years. I know the importance of tackling this often unspoken issue.

“Everyone has a body and we want to use this week to help people feel more comfortable in their own skin and celebrate every body, no matter the shape or size.”

A student-run association, HeadsUp focuses on promoting positive mental health and wellbeing across campus.
