Loughborough Professor receives lifetime award
Professor Roger Goodall, who undertakes research and teaching in Control Systems Engineering at Loughborough, was presented with the Mechatronic Systems Lifetime Achievement Award at the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) Mechatronic Systems Symposium in Vienna this month.
It is given out every three years to a researcher that has made exceptional contributions to IFAC’s mechatronic systems activities. The researcher also needs to have contributed to research in fundamental or applied mechatronics.
Professor Goodall was recognised for ‘pioneering research contributions, particularly internationally leading research in Maglev and active control for future mechatronic railway vehicles.’
He has a long history with the IFAC as he was the inaugural Chair of the Mechatronic Systems Technical Committee, IFAC Vice-President for six years and an IFAC Fellow.
On winning the award, Professor Goodall said: “Around 25 years ago I joined IFAC with the aim of enhancing my international profile, and so it’s particularly gratifying to now receive this lifetime achievement award from the technical committee.
“I was thrilled that many friends and colleagues from around the world were there to celebrate this achievement with me.”
