Do something different for National Inclusion Week (23-29 September)
The University would like to take the opportunity to invite staff members to participate and contribute to the important work around inclusivity here at Loughborough for this year’s National Inclusion Week.
As part of its commitment to colleagues, one of the key points within the People Strategy is focusing on enhancing Loughborough’s reputation as a great place to work and study, to become a truly inclusive employer.
We invite colleagues to take a small action next week that could make a big difference. Why not consider one of the following?
- Say hello and introduce yourself to people in your building that you may have seen around but haven’t spoken to.
- Take the opportunity to share one new thing about each other within your teams - maybe someone has a hidden talent?
- Add an item to your next team meeting agenda on inclusivity, sharing what being inclusive looks like to you. Then share your ideas with the Human Resources and Organisational Development department.
- If you’re leading a meeting, spend some time in advance thinking about what you can do to get the best out of people at that meeting and ensure everyone gets the opportunity to contribute.
- When sending an email, think about whether that is the best form of communication for the person receiving it. Would it be better to speak to them on the phone or drop by their office instead?
- Stuck for ideas? Ask around! Different people can offer a variety of suggestions - together you might just come up with something brilliant.
- Dedicate some time during the week to tell someone why having an inclusive culture at Loughborough is important to you.
- Recognise and celebrate the successes of those around you.
- If you’re planning for an upcoming lecture or seminar, think about what you could do to make your lesson more inclusive
- Read an article about different people’s perspectives on life and the challenges they might have faced.
Keep an eye out for more information on the internal news feed next week about training opportunities at Loughborough and becoming involved in staff groups.
