Understanding your tuition and accommodation fees

Although paying your bills will not be a highlight of your student experience, it is an essential part of your calendar routine.

Below is some guidance on when you will pay fees throughout the year, how the University will communicate with you and what to do if you have a loan from the Student Loan Company. You will have also received an email today (25 October) from Notifications@lboro.ac.uk with the same guidance for your reference.

When you will pay tuition and accommodation fees

Tuition fees for the academic year will be added to your account in late October and payment can be made in full by 15 November 2019, or in three equal instalments due on 15 November 2019, 24 January 2020 and 15 May 2020.

If you are in University accommodation these charges are also added termly in October, December and April. The same instalment dates apply for tuition fees and accommodation charges.

Please note that invoices for these charges are not sent to students and billings are shown on monthly statements.

How we will communicate with you

The Finance Office will communicate with you primarily through your student email account. To keep you up to date with the status of your payments, we will send monthly statements to your University email. If you wish to speak to someone in the Finance Office you can phone 01509 223538.

Emails are sent from Student.Statements@lboro.ac.uk but please do not reply to this account as it is for automated distribution purposes only. We also place messages on the Learn noticeboard before the next statement is sent as a reminder.

The first account statement showing tuition and accommodation fees payable will be available no later than Friday 1 November 2019.

Subsequent statement dates are as follows:

  • 15 November 2019, 20 December 2019
  • 10 January 2020, 31 January 2020, 28 February 2020, 13 March 2020
  • 26 March 2020, 1 May 2020, 15 May 2020, 18 June 2020, 21 July 2020

We suggest that you regularly check your inbox for any finance updates and account statements. If you do not receive the first statement, we strongly recommend that you check your spam folder in case these communications have been misdirected.

How to pay your fees

There are various ways to pay your fees, but the easiest method is via the online portals which provide a secure and effective method of payment.

For card payments you need to have your credit or debit card available, your student ID number, name and date of birth.

International bank payments can also be made in your home currency by choosing the Flywire option. The online payment portals can easily be accessed through the University homepage (Student Fees – How to pay), via the link on the right-hand side. Access is also available via Learn.

If you have a student loan

If you are an undergraduate student in receipt of a tuition fee loan from the Student Loan Company, you will still receive a statement of account but funds will be paid to the University directly.

Providing you have had confirmation that your tuition fee loan has been approved, and all the administration for this is up-to-date, then you do not need to take further action. This will appear on your statement under the section ‘Summary of Student Loan transactions’.

However, if your tuition fee still appears on your February statement without the appropriate narrative showing, we strongly recommend that you contact the Student Loan Company to check the status of your application. If you leave it too late to apply for your loan, you may find yourself ineligible and unable to graduate or progress to the next stage of your programme without paying the fees yourself.

Keeping your details up-to-date

During your studies, there may be a requirement for the University to make a payment to you for various reasons, including expenses, room bond refunds, prizes and bursaries.

It is therefore imperative that you enter your personal UK bank details onto the system via student self-service on Learn. This can be accessed with your student login and under ‘Student Resources’ is the option ‘Maintain Student Bank details’.

Staying secure online

Finally, we would like to remind students about online financial security. It is important to remain vigilant of these potential risks and sensitive information, such as credit card details, which should never be sent via email under any circumstance.

If you are in any doubt over the validity or security of an email, please contact IT Services.
