Researchers: Proposals now being accepted for UKRI Interdisciplinary Circular Economy Centres

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is now inviting outline proposals for Interdisciplinary Circular Economy Centres.

Up to £22.5m is available to support up to five centres in the country (£4.5m each) for up to four years from 1 October 2020.

Proposals are invited for centres conducting interdisciplinary research that accelerates understanding and solutions to enable circularity of a resource flow (e.g. materials, material systems, products and/or services), including consideration of (multi) sector contexts.

UKRI welcomes and encourages applications led by and involving any discipline.

The UK has the potential to grow and prosper sustainably by transitioning to a more circular economy, where resources are processed with sustainability, waste minimisation and efficiency in mind, and where product lifecycles are optimised to generate more economic and social value before recycling and reuse.

However, this transition requires clear, evidence-based, implementation pathways, with broad underpinning research evidence. It must provide not only technical, technological and scientific advances, but also the social, behavioural, cultural, ethical, environmental, economic, legal and regulatory understanding required to support a successful transition.

An internal workshop will be held on Friday 11 October to give an overview of the scheme and provide an opportunity for any academics wishing to lead or be involved in a proposal to present and discuss their ideas. The workshop will start at 12.30pm with lunch included, with the main workshop commencing at 1pm. If you have any dietary requirements, please let Laura Dale know by emailing l.dale@lboro.ac.uk.

Register to attend the event here: UKRI Workshop.

For further information, or if you would like to be involved but are unable to attend the workshop, please contact Clare Edwards (c.e.edwards@lboro.ac.uk) or Liz Dodson (E.A.Dodson@lboro.ac.uk).
