Lord Adonis to give Brexit lecture in the run-up to Election Day
Former Secretary of State for Transport and Labour peer Lord Adonis will visit Loughborough University next month to give a lecture on the future of Brexit.
On December 12, Britain will decide which party it wants to lead the country and with that the UK’s separation from the European Union.
Six days before, on December 6, Loughborough’s Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS), will host prominent Remainer Lord Adonis where he will give a talk titled, What Next For Brexit?.
The event will take place in the James France building at 2pm and is open to academic staff and students from the School of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Dr Paul Maddrell, Lecturer in International History, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Lord Adonis to the University.
“The lecture will be a wonderfully timely one, falling, as it will, six days before a General Election dominated by the issue of Brexit.”
Lord Adonis is the Vice-Chairman of the European Movement - an independent all-party pressure group which campaigns for greater European integration and for reform of the European Union.
He is one of the leading figures in the campaign for a People's Vote on the Government's deal for Britain's withdrawal from the EU.
He joined the House of Lords in 2005 as a Labour peer.
From 2009 to 2010, he was Secretary of State for Transport.
And from 2015 to 2017, he was Chairman of the National Infrastructure Commission.
