Doctoral College’s upcoming Research Conference to focus on Visibility and Impact

The Doctoral College will be hosting its next Research Conference on Tuesday 26 November, which is open for all Doctoral Researchers and staff to attend.

The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Visibility and Impact’ and during the day there will be keynote speakers, researcher talks, workshops, competitions and a networking lunch.

Professional Services including the Library, Centre for Faith and Spirituality and the Research Office will also be present during the day, with accompanying exhibition stands.

Dr Hamid Khan, a Public Engagement Coordinator for the charity Sense About Science will deliver one of the keynote presentations at the conference.

Sense about Science is an independent charity that challenges the misrepresentation of research and evidence in public life, advocating for the openness about research findings and work to ensure the public interest is recognised in policymaking.

Dr Khan will discuss their history of public and policy engagement over the last 17 years, as well as empowering researchers in attendance to have the confidence and skills to respond to public misconceptions about science and evidence.

Professor Liz Stokoe, who specialises in social interaction and conversation analysis, will also be a keynote speaker on the day.

Professor Stokoe will share how she has made her research impactful and visible through different channels, and also draw upon her research findings to share tips and tricks on how to be an effective and persuasive communicator.

Speaking about the day, Professor Elizabeth Peel, Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Doctoral College said: “Our annual Research Conference is one of the University’s flagship research events which goes from strength to strength.

“Having the opportunity to engage with cutting-edge research across our Schools and support the visibility of our doctoral researchers is a true highlight of the academic year. Let’s maximise its visibility and impact in line with the theme this year.”

Researchers across all Schools and Departments are invited to take part in the talks and poster competition. More information on how to enter can be found on the dedicated event webpage.

The conference will take place in the Sir Denis Rooke Building at Holywell Park and is free to attend. Places can be booked online here.
