2020 Teaching Awards applications are now open

Applications for the 2020 Teaching Innovation Awards and Research-informed Teaching Awards are now open. The final submission date for both awards is the 31 January 2020.

The Teaching Award winners will be featured in our Loughborough University Learning and Teaching Conference, 1 July 2020.

The Teaching Innovation Awards (TIAs) support innovation which positively impacts students’ academic experience and enhances the teaching quality at Loughborough University.

As new developments appear across both campuses, there may be initiatives you wish to research or implement to support staff or students to advance teaching environments, uses of technology or approaches to learning.

These can be short projects (1-2 months), medium projects (3-6 months) and long-term projects (up to 12 months).

There are four categories that you can enter:

  • Teaching Innovation Award
  • Inclusivity in Teaching
  • STEMLab
  • Student Education Research Placement– this award is new for this year

The Teaching Innovation Award and Inclusivity in Teaching awards provide funds up to £3,000 per project, although this can be increased to £5,000 in exceptional cases.

The STEMLab and Student Education Research Placement awards offer funds for a Summer Placement Student up to 10 weeks or this can be divided into 2 students at 5 weeks.

More information can be found here. The deadline for applications is the 31 January 2020.

The Research-informed Teaching Awards (RiTAs) are a prestigious annual award which seeks to recognise and celebrate academic staff who have made an outstanding contribution to the promotion of research-informed teaching with a direct impact on the student learning experience at Loughborough University.

The award is designed to foster pedagogic research across the institution and to reaffirm the University’s commitment to recognising staff who demonstrate high levels of achievement in both research and teaching.

In 2019 three members of staff received RiTAs -  Dr Ian Jones, Professor Sandie Dann and Dr Sarah Mills. Further information on their work can be found here.

Please note applications must first be sent to your School (Associate Dean Teaching or Operations Manager), by 8 January 2020. Once this has been approved, your application must reach the Centre for Academic Practice by 31 January 2020.

Guidance and application forms can be found here.  If you are interested in applying for either award it is recommended you speak to colleagues in CAP when formulating your application, please contact Samantha Chester or Sarah Bamforth.
