Fine Art Students launch new art exhibition

Five Fine Art students from Loughborough University have put together a free exhibition that will take place next month at the Martin Hall Exhibition Space on campus.

‘Some Thing Not No Thing’ consists of a selection of work by Chris Bingham, Kate Freckelton, Kerolaina Linkevica, James Milner and Samuel Thompson-Plant, who are first and second year students.

It centres around the idea of ‘something’ being a sense or feeling, and highlights the uncertainty in seeking what we want and how we often have to wait for these.

However, do not think that this exhibition is without humour. In fact, the students have used humour to question our existence.

Samuel Thompson-Plant said: “The work in the exhibition is focused on what it is like to live through hope and hopelessness, and laughter here is seen as the best medicine for this.

“We all love to laugh because it gets rid of everything else, and humour here is dealt with as a powerful force which can easily flip and represent something much more rooted within ourselves.”

Students, staff and members of the public are also invited to the opening night on 2 April from 7pm-11pm, where refreshments will be provided.

The exhibition will then be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 12pm-2pm.

They have been able to put on this exhibition thanks to the LU Arts Student Arts Grants scheme.

If you’re a student and have an idea for an arts-related activity you can apply to receive up to £1,000 to fund it. Individuals or groups can apply and LU Arts will support you in terms of marketing and delivering the project.

You can find out more about the LU Arts student arts grants here. Application forms are available to download here. Please then send your completed application form to luarts@lboro.ac.uk.

Please note the deadline for applications is 15 April 2019.
