Alumni and friends of the University invited for 2019 Donor Day

On Saturday 23 March, the University hosted an annual event dedicated to thanking those who have made a difference to Loughborough through donations and volunteering.

Over one hundred guests attended, who experienced exclusive tours around campus, including the new Elite Athlete Centre and Hotel as well as the Claudia Parsons Hall of Residence, and also heard first-hand from the students and academics they had positively impacted.

Donor Day was also an opportunity to raise the profile of the University and give guests an exclusive insight into the University’s ongoing activities.

They listened to a speech from the Vice Chancellor Professor Robert Allison, who gave them an update on the successes of the University and the plans for the future.

They also heard from the Director of Sport, John Steele, as well as Professor Nick Clifford and Professor Tom Jackson.

The Vice Chancellor commented: “Providing scholarships to our students is extremely important. It helps us to be a welcoming community where ability is the criteria for entry and not money.

“Loughborough University is number one in the UK for social inclusivity, according to The Times League Table, and this is thanks to our donors who provide ongoing support to our students from less privileged backgrounds.”

“On behalf of the University, thank you to all of our supporters who have helped us to provide both a transformative and excellent educational experience to our students.”

Thanks to supporters of the University, nearly £2.5 million has been donated in the last year and over 250 students have received philanthropically supported scholarships.

The impact of donors not only supports students, but also helps to advance research excellence, develop the campus and provide aid to communities around the world.
