Most students are expected to be leaving the University for the summer break over the next two weeks.

To combat the waste left by in halls of residences, the University’s Sustainability team – with support from LSU’s Environmental and Ethical Network – have launched Give ‘n’ Go: a scheme that will support both local and national charities, and help students clear out their unwanted belongings and general waste.

The scheme will primarily take place this weekend on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 June.

A mixture of University staff, student volunteers and ambassadors, as well as external volunteers, will be on hand to support over the two days.

The charities that will benefit from donations include British Heart Foundation, Shepshed Food Bank, Cope Children’s Trust, Grange Park Centre, East Midlands Dog Rescue, Red Box Project Loughborough, St Marks Community Centre and Trent Vineyard/The Arches.

If you are a student clearing out your belongings, please note that any of the following can be dropped off:

  • Cupboard food (unopened, except sugar which can be open)
  • Books
  • Clothes and shoes
  • Furniture
  • Crockery and kitchen items (please clean these beforehand)
  • Electrical goods (please take broken ones to your hall’s reception)
  • Pillows and duvets
  • Toiletries
  • Coat hangers
  • Stationery (reusable and non-reusable)
  • Toys
  • Recycling waste
  • Miscellaneous donations (eg rugs, decorations etc.)

It is requested students drop any items off at their hall’s designated drop off point (dining halls or common rooms – see below for full breakdown) throughout this week and over the weekend, or drop them off at the gazebos located outside each hall on the main weekend.

If you have any questions regarding Give ‘n’ Go, or you are a staff member that can volunteer over the weekend, please email Sonja Peacock, Environmental Management Assistant, at S.Peacock2@lboro.ac.uk.
