Staff and students invited to attend interactive performance by postgraduate student this week

A Loughborough student will be exhibiting her work this week in the Martin Hall Exhibition Space.

Holly Rozier – who is studying an MA in Art and Design – will be presenting Cut Flowers #3, an interactive performance that explores the processes that have historically embedded ties to domestic creation, in order to challenge notions of femininity.

Women’s embroidery, once known as ‘flowering’, was the starting point of Holly’s durational performance piece.

Whilst deflowering floral fabric, she shows the same level of attention to snipping away the fabric as if she were stitching. The process travels through both the pleasurable stages and the painful obligations of a repetitive act.

Talking about the exhibition, Holly commented: “Cut Flowers #3 feels like you are entering grandma’s living room, overwhelmed by floral fabric.

“In this interactive performance, the audience will be invited to simply 'sit and have a minute' observing, or join me in cutting out flowers, as I snip apart the domestic environment. Martin Hall Exhibition Space will transform throughout the week, so it's definitely one to keep an eye on.”

The exhibition runs until Friday 29 June and is free to attend from 10am-4pm daily. For further information, please contact Grace Lewis by emailing G.Lewis@lboro.ac.uk.
